The organization originating this idea is in favor of maximizing visitor use in natural areas as their niche within the arena of ‘conservation’ organizations. They are one of the chief organizations promulgating the logical fallacy that maximizing visitor use of natural areas will maximize conservation. There is no indication that users desire more access to natural areas but every indication that the diverse cultures and languages of the USA desire more, and more appropriate, interpretation of nature when they visit existing access areas. We need to be putting our resources there while maintaining as much local control of natural areas as possible- to guarantee long-term stewardship through the political winds that change so rapidly at the State and National levels.
